Setting some classic archetypal stories, this piece conjures inky dragons of blue, evoking water as the source of life and as Source itself- the connecting stream that carries our individual and collective stories. At the core of everything is water, the essence of life and the original relationship to ourselves, our first birth mother.
From the curator:
‘‘Dragons in European mythology are often linked to bodies of water but framed as forces to be subdued by a hero’s strength, unlike similar creatures associated with protection of water and life force in other myths. These mediaeval stories symbolize internal struggle against our worst self, but also romanticize conquest of the land. While recent literature reframes the dragon as a Misunderstood Other, in Fed Your Garden, Water Your Dragon, the dragon is reclaimed as an internal force, but with a call to nurture and care-taking responsibility for the water within us and tending to the land that sustains us.’’
